Friday Foodie: Salt Rock Tavern

I swear I didn't mean to post two Oldsmar restaurants in a row, but lately I have been sticking close to work, and home, so Oldsmar it is has been.

Located off Tampa Rd in the same plaza as Tijuana Flats, and one of their sister restaurants, Rumba's, Salt Rock Tavern is better each time I dine. I have been three times now, and each visit is better than the last.

The first time I tried Salt Rock Tavern,  after they first opened and they were packed. Parking was a nightmare, and we had to circle several times to find a spot. But I assume that is because they were new, and who doesn't want to try a new spot on Friday night?

The second time, I went with a few girlfriends for a catch up dinner, and also to take advantage of their happy hour special, a $3.50 glass of house Pinot Grigio. They also offer $3.50 well cocktails, and $1.75 PBR, or Bud Light M-Sat 4-7, and all day Sunday.

Buffalo Chicken Dip
To start, we ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip served in a tasty bread bowl, while waiting for one more friend to arrive. It was thick and creamy, with just a kick of heat. It was delicious and I have been craving it, ever since!

Mile High Meatloaf: topped with garlic mashed potatoes, red wine demi glaze, and crispy onions
Leftovers ;)
For dinner, I ordered the Mile High Meatloaf. I kid you not, it was like a pound of meat {there's a joke in there that my husband would use, I'm sure. I digress}! Very filling, and enough for two-three meals. It was very flavorful, and moist. My only complaint, was that it was a bit too peppery for me, but other than that, I recommend it, if you are looking for something hearty.

Look Ma, No Bun: dill pickles, tomato, wrapped in lettuce, with a scallion cream cheese aioli
On the other end of the spectrum, one of my friends ordered the Look Ma, No Bun. She said while it was a tad messy, that she loved it. A side of truffle Parmesan Fries were definitely in order.

Last Sunday, after throwing my best friend's surprise 30th, we all went to Salt Rock Tavern for brunch. The cost was $21.90, and included two mimosas or bloody marys {with a make your own bloody mary bar}. I don't actually know if this is a special or regular price, but it was buy one, get one 1/2 off, which for the buffet it included, was worth it to me!

I didn't eat for the rest of the day, after Sunday Brunch! Seriously, I was in a food coma, and totally over-indulged. Some buffet items included: an omelet station, a waffle station, roast beef, and ham carving station, various salads, eggs, pastries, bacon, sausage, schnitzel, stir-fry, pasta, potatoes, paella, fruit trays, cheese and meat platters, and more items I didn't even see.

At the end, bellies full, there was also dessert. An ice cream station where someone made fresh made waffle cones. My mind was blown, and my stomach was crying in delight, and fear at the thought of putting anything else in my body. But alas, it had to be done. How often do you eat homemade waffle cones topped with cherries jubilee and whipped cream?! My sentiments, exactly.

Try Salt Rock Tavern, and see for yourself.
