Foodie Friday: Surf Shack

Before I met my husband, I pretty much loved chain restaurants. No lie, I thought Applebees, and Olive Garden were the best spots of all time. Not to knock Applebees or the like, but my tastes, and fortunately my budget, have changed.

One of my favorite local, independent restaurants is just minutes from Casa de Crews! Surf Shack is fresh, fast, and flavorful. The first time Jason and I dined at Surf Shack, we went for their Wednesday Wings & Things; things  being $2 draft beers! Those wings were crisp, tasty, and on special. Since that first visit, almost two years, ago we visit one or two times a month. I bring friends, my siblings and even...my mom. If you were to know my momma, you'd know she loves a good chain restaurant, but will pretty much request that we dine at Surf Shack whenever she visits my neighborhood. No where else will do for her {also, if you can't tell, my mom is not really big on change. The lady likes what she likes!}.

Plus, any joint that immediately brings you a basket of fresh tortilla chips and homemade house salsa, while you peruse the menu, is alright in my book.

I have yet to have a bad meal at Surf Shack. While I don't typically order an appetizer {unless dining with foodie blog friend for "research", of course. Duh} before dinner, almost every time we bring someone new, I insist we order the Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls {Buffalo chicken, jack and cheddar cheese, in a crispy wonton shell--served with chipotle-ranch}. These babies are crispy and SO good. I don't know how else to describe them. Should you visit, order them and see for yourself. I promise you won't regret it!

Last week, my sister and I tried their frickle chips to start {okay, maybe I order an appetizer more often than I realize. Sue me}. Fried pickle chips are a new special to the Surf Shack menu. They are light and airy, and because they aren't heavy, I don't feel too extremely guilty sharing these before my dinner.

For entrees, I like it all. They have awesome tacos, and a decent surf slaw that comes with. Visit Thursdays for $2 tacos {fyi, there are no substitutions on $2 taco night}, and try a variety on the cheap

Tiger Shrimp Taco{Crispy shrimp, cilantro aioli, shredded cabbage and pico de gallo}
 &
Filet Mignon Taco {Tenderloin, garlic-tomato salsa, cheese and crispy onions}
I enjoy their salads, and while I tell myself to try something new, I end up usually getting the Taco Salad, Tenderloin Steak Salad, or Buffalo Chicken Salad. Have you figured out I have an "issue" with all things Buffalo?

Taco Salad {chicken, guacamole, sour cream, mixed greens, cilantro, shredded cheese,black beans, and  pico de gallo}

 Tenderloin Steak Salad {Filet tenderloin, mixed greens, crispy onions, tomato, celery, gorgonzola and green beans}

Buffalo Chicken Salad {Buffalo chicken, romaine, gorgonzola, corn, pico de gallo and celery w/ cilantro-lime ranch}

Surf Shack on Urbanspoon
I could go and on, and on, but I have run out of decent, and not so decent food porn pictures, and time. Visit Surf Shack for yourself and let me know what you think!

Cheers!
Nichole
