My scale is broken....

I know that sounds like an excuse, but is legit unreliable. I know this because my parents have a super nice (read: expensive?) scale that calculates your body fat percentage, weight and other things I do not know how to read. Their uber nice scale tells me every time that I weigh 6lbs less, than my scale at home...ya'll 6lbs isn't something to be "off" about...Well, at least not for me; a kid who likes to go by numbers.

When I started really trying to shed weight, I weighed 17lbs more than I do now (if I'm going by the parentals scale...if I go by mine, I've lost 11).


...So what's a girl to do? I have been relying on how my clothes feel. Yesterday, I went shopping for a new dress to wear to a friend's wedding next weekend and my normal size fit great (normally my size can sometimes be snug or I'll blame the cut of a dress, don't tell me you don't do that!) and my jeans are soooo loose.

I guess I could just buy a new scale, but why do that when I can make things difficult for myself...?




How/what do you do to track your weight loss?

Oh, and sorry for the numerous ellipsis' today, not sure why I overused them so much...(ha! added that last one just because)

  1. I also go by how my clothes fit. I hate our scale, so when I must weigh myself I use the one at the gym.

    But I usually go by how my clothes fit and how I feel.

  3. I would go with the lowest weight! I weight myself on my cheapo Wal-mart scale and judge by how much clothes fit.

  4. I have a crappy little scale(not even digital ha) and it's off sometimes too so a new scale is def on my wish list haha! :-)
    I usually go by how my clothes fit so I don't stress about it too much!

  6. I totally believe you!!! My scale is 3lbs heavier than the scale at Weight Watchers. And I can gain or lose like 10lbs in a matter of minutes. Hang in there...stick with it...don't give up...I'm a fan of ellipses too!!!

  7. I bought a new scale because I thought my old one was broken. Well, now I get 3 separate weights (when I weigh myself at the gym, too). So I figure you just have to stick with one, and go by the numbers that ONE scale says.
    I also just got my body fat % measured at the gym with calipers, which (if done by a trained individual) can be +/-1% correct. The hand-held ones can be +/-8% off.
    And how clothes fit is a good predictor, too!

  8. Yay for loose jeans!

    I use a cheapo scale from Target that weighs me about 5 lbs less than the Weight Watchers scale. The good news is that it's consistent, so I can always estimate my real weight. I don't own a scale that measures my body fat percentage because I really don't want to know what mine is! Ignorance is bliss sometimes. :)

  11. You should go by how you feel and then how your clothes fit =) Weighing yourself is a good guideline to see how your doing but you lose weight in different areas at different rates. And also, scales can be wrong ^.^ Friends are a good way of letting you know too!

  12. i keep track of weight loss by my clothes too! :) i can tell if i've gained or lost weight by one of my jeans. i just feel like it's more reliable than our scale -- when i use our scale, one day i lost 4lbs, the next i gained 10... so wrong, right?! ;)

  13. i use the scale at the gym but only weigh myself once a week because otherwise I get depressed from all the fluctuations, ha!
    p.s. - good job on the weightloss, whether it's 11 or 17 it's still great!
